Frédéric Chopin's Birth Chart Analysis

Introduction

I'm going to go through the birth chart of Frédéric Chopin, and by doing so I'm hoping we learn some lessons on how to read our chart better. This analysis dates to 21 November 2025.

Mercury in Dhanishtha, rhythm and fame

So let's start with his musical genius, what could be the reason behind that? See, the two houses linked to our aspirations in life—or the main house, should I say, linked to our aspiration—is the 11th house.

Mercury falls in the constellation of Dhanishtha. I believe Mercury in Dhanishtha is behind his musical genius. I've mentioned that a Dhanishtha native is likely to have a sense of rhythm, doesn't that apply directly to him? And Dhanishtha is also directly linked to worldwide fame in my reading.

I have repeatedly mentioned many individuals as examples of strong Dhanishtha influence: Barack Obama, Narendra Modi, Princess Diana and many more. There's a long list of people who are famous who have a strong Dhanishtha influence, so I'm not surprised by his musical talent due to this position and also not surprised by his worldwide fame.

Jupiter in Ashwini and teaching

An uncommon fact about Frédéric Chopin was that he used to teach. A lot of his money was made—he made a living through teaching. After he settled in Paris, teaching became his principal source of income while he continued to compose.

That is explained, in my reading, by the position of Jupiter in his chart in the constellation of Ashwini. If you do also have this position one way or the other, you could teach, mentor, train and educate people, or motivate them in some manner.

The fourth house and private work

And a lot of his work was done from the privacy of his home. Can that be explained from his chart? Yes, it can. I find the sixth-house ruler in the fourth house.

I've repeatedly mentioned that if career-related houses are falling in the fourth house, there's every chance of a work-from-home kind of situation.

He used to teach and compose his music from the privacy of his home, although neither activity was confined to his Paris apartment.

Saturn, repetition and perfection

What would be his working style? The sixth house is ruled by Saturn. Now if you study his life, pupil accounts describe how he was an exacting teacher. He had his students repeat passages to achieve understanding and precision.

So this repetitive method of achieving perfection is directly linked to Saturn in my interpretation, and he achieved excellence as Saturn furthermore falls in the constellation of Jyeshtha. Does it make sense?

Engagement, relationships and the Dasha

What about his personal life, though? He was engaged once and then was in a long-term relationship thereafter. When did that happen? In 1836, this chart reading connects the engagement with Jupiter's chapter.

Now if you talk about personal life, love affairs or the beginning of a relationship are seen from the fifth house. Which planet is ruling the fifth house? It's Jupiter. So during the Jupiter period, he began a love affair, but it didn't result in marriage.

Chopin became unofficially engaged to Maria Wodzińska in September 1836; it ended by July 1837. In my astrological reading, Saturn and Rahu strongly influence marriage, so the relationship built around Jupiter remained a relationship.

It was an engagement, and later he started dating George Sand in 1838. Their relationship ended in 1847, and they never married.

Being unsettled is common if you are a Leo ascendant, as Saturn and Rahu would be controlling the marriage house, in this astrological interpretation. The lesson here, in my words, is to marry late in life, but it is not a fixed rule.

Shatabhisha and independent piano work

Much of his body of work was for solo piano, though not all of it was solo. I think its independent quality has a lot to do with Venus's position in Shatabhisha.

Doing things independently is directly linked to Shatabhisha in my interpretation. Doing things independently in isolation, I must add, is linked to Shatabhisha. That was exactly his story.

Like a night vigilante, that is Shatabhisha-like. As a general example, if you have Mars in your chart in Shatabhisha, you can be that night vigilante who's keeping an eye on the neighbourhood, seeing if there's something wrong. Chopin's Mars is in Uttara Bhadrapada.

Moon in Uttara Ashadha and success

Moon in his chart in Uttara Ashadha is suggesting he was meant to achieve extraordinary things. That is my reading.

An Uttara Ashadha native can achieve success against all odds. I connect that quality with what Chopin achieved through his music.

Relocation to Paris and resilience

The fourth-house ruler in his chart is Mars, which falls in the eighth house. I've mentioned that you're likely to have your place of residence far away if you have the fourth-house ruler in the eighth house, which he does.

So at the age of twenty he moved away from Poland, and at twenty-one he reached Paris. Paris became his principal base, although he travelled.

And Mars furthermore in Uttara Bhadrapada is a sign of a resilient character in my view. I read his story: he was ill for a very long period of his life, but he continued working and remained quite resilient. Saturn in Jyeshtha also symbolises his resilience, and Mars in Uttara Bhadrapada confirms it.

Ketu in Revati and past-life talent

Now Ketu in his chart is in Revati, and Revati is linked to Mercury, and Mercury is in Dhanishtha. You see a pattern there.

Ketu in Revati, in my view, is a sign of someone who from a past life has carried forward some natural creative talent in this life, which manifested in a Mercury-in-Dhanishtha-like fashion. You see that connection.

It's not as if I believe he became this musical genius only on the basis of his practice in this life. I think it was carried forward from past lives. I know it's a controversial statement, but that's how I see it. Ketu wherever it's placed in your chart would determine this: which skills are you carrying forward from a past life?

Rahu in Chitra and mature creativity

And where is Rahu placed in his chart? Rahu is in Chitra. Rahu's placement would tell you this: what exactly are you meant to achieve in this life—things you haven't experienced before? That is my interpretation. A Rahu-in-Chitra native could experience the world of art and entertainment, the world of music in his case.

If you look at the Dasha table, he started Rahu's Mahadasha early in his Paris life, in the source's reading.

So what am I trying to tell you here? Just like in the birth chart of Albert Einstein, I too connect Rahu with much of Chopin's mature work. Rahu, as I've mentioned, is all about experiencing things you've never done before. That is an astrological interpretation rather than an objective ranking of his best work.

So, in this reading, he wanted to experience the world of art and entertainment, the world of music, which he did. Chopin died in Paris on 17 October 1849.
