Hello, I’m Gaurav. I bring to you my experience of 10 years in Vedic Astrology. The match calculator has been designed by me. It would assess your compatibility independently based on Guna Milan and synastry.
The Guna Milan methodology would be based on Moon Nakshatras, whereas synastry would take into account your entire chart. This would give you a more comprehensive view of what the charts are saying about your match.
What the assessment tells you
Please keep in view that the compatibility assessment would give you signals, positive or negative, linked to your compatibility. The entire compatibility analysis still needs to be done, which would bring into question other factors.
One factor is the commonality of the time of marriage. The profile of your partner identified from your chart would also need to be matched. Commonality of life’s journey may also play a factor. For example, your partner may have a life in a place away from their country or place of birth, whereas you may not have those combinations. Life stage may also play a factor. How does Guna Milan work?
The Guna Milan technique is based on Moon Nakshatras. Vedic astrologers believe that the Moon determines our way of thinking and our mind. Their view is that if Moon Nakshatras are well matched, it may turn out to be a good match. They broke the assessment down into eight different factors. The first three, in my experience, are the most critical. They carry scores of 8, 7 and 6 respectively.
Nadi — 8 points
In Nadi, you are either going to be assigned a full score of 8 or a score of 0. You will be given a full score if the Nadi of the Moon Nakshatra of you and your partner is different in terms of body composition. Their view is that if two people come together who have a similar body composition, the possibility of starting a family is difficult, thereby affecting the longevity of the relationship.
Bhakoot Dosha — 7 points
Bhakoot Dosha carries a total score of 7. There are two Bhakoot Doshas: the 2–12 and the 6–8. The 2–12 can lead to physical distance becoming a problem. The 6–8 can lead to misunderstandings and a possibility of misfortune as well.
Gana — 6 points
Gana, for which you get 6 points, is temperament. It assesses what temperaments you and your partner have on the basis of your Moon Nakshatras. If a person has a more forgiving temperament and is marrying someone who has a less forgiving temperament, it does seem like a good match. If both individuals have a less forgiving temperament, then issues can arise in the relationship.
What I look at closely
These three parameters are the ones I look at very closely. If two of them are not scoring highly, then that is a strong signal of incompatibility. The shortcoming of this method is that it is only based on your Moon Nakshatras. It does not take into account other planetary combinations, which also play an important factor in determining compatibility.
How does synastry work?
Synastry is based on a common technique used by Western astrologers, so I have combined that method with Vedic charts. The method is very logical. We place one person’s chart on top of the other person’s chart and then study the planetary interactions.
Planet-to-planet interactions
For example, one person may have Mars in their chart in the sign of Gemini, while their partner has Venus in the same sign. There is then a Mars–Venus synastry, and something can be said about the compatibility because of that interaction.
Planets interacting with your houses
Planets may also have relationships with houses. For example, if your partner has a planet in a sign which falls in your career house, that planet is affecting your career. If the planet affecting your career is a strong planet such as the Sun or Jupiter, the influence of your partner on that aspect of your life, such as your career, could turn out to be quite positive.
How I assess the chemistry
I believe synastry is a good method to assess the strengths and weaknesses of a match. I have tried to quantify the scores in terms of mental connection, intimacy and other factors, so you do not have to worry too much about assigning a certain measure to these interactions.
