Planets in Uttara Bhadrapada Nakshatra
Introduction
Uttara Bhadrapada, as per mythology, is ruled by Lord Ahirbudhnya. Lord Ahirbudhnya is described as a cloud serpent. He's known to be the serpent residing in the atmosphere. So immediately you associate this constellation with savagery and cruelty as it's linked to the serpents.
Lord Ahirbudhnya and Saturn
In Uttara Bhadrapada, due to Lord Ahirbudhnya's character, this cruelty and savagery is always within reason.
Yes, this constellation represents an extreme domineering force. However, that force is used only when absolutely necessary and most importantly within reason. I think this reasonability, this maturity also comes from Saturn, which is the planetary ruler of this constellation. This is the last constellation ruled by Saturn. So the best of Saturn would be seen in this constellation. Patience, perseverance, discipline, achieving mastery and fighting peacefully. I would classify an Uttara Bhadrapada native as a peaceful warrior.
Go to planets in Uttara Bhadrapada →
Why warrior? This constellation belongs to the caste of a Kshatriya, the caste belonging to warriors. And this peacefulness, this reasonability comes due to Lord Ahirbudhnya's character and Saturn's rulership. One of the other associations you have with a serpent is the inclination to hold on to possessions and relationships and not being able to bring a change, falling prey to inertia, getting comfortable with circumstances. Some of this I'd mentioned whilst explaining to you the constellation of Ashlesha, which also is ruled by the serpents. And in Uttara Bhadrapada too, the native is likely to fall prey to clinging on to situations, circumstances, relationships, etc. The native may resist change. And this is one of the major downsides of this constellation.
Duty and Contentment
And it shouldn't be of any surprise to you, this constellation has the Guna of Tamasic darkness. Here, darkness refers to the lack of motivation to bring a change. We often see that when we find ourselves a job, we feel very comfortable with it. We lack the motivation to change our job, to advance our career. We get comfortable with circumstances. And that can lead to a phase of darkness. See, I'm not equating being comfortable with being content. They're two different things. Contentment is a happy feeling. Whereas being too comfortable can lead to self-destruction. We all survive on activity. On the positive side, I think the native would hold on to one's position, one's role, one's duty, the best one can.
So I think this constellation belongs to the ones who are put in charge of a long-term project, and the native would fulfil the duty as the native would feel comfortable in monotony, like a security guard in a bank. The job is monotonous. However, someone has to do it. And that is where an Uttara Bhadrapada native comes along. So there are two sides to this. One is getting too comfortable for one's own good, which is the tamasic side. Whereas the duty-bound nature linked to Uttara Bhadrapada is a positive quality. And therefore, this constellation belongs to the nature of Dhruva, fixed.
So it's a case where if the Uttara Bhadrapada native commits to a task, the native can be relied upon to fulfil the responsibilities in a duty-bound manner. So taking on a huge responsibility would be the native's expertise. And due to Saturn's rulership, which brings qualities of perseverance, the native would not shy away from one's duty. So if a soldier in the army is stationed in a place for many months, the native could be relied upon to fulfil that duty.
Struggle and Wisdom
Now, Ahirbudhnya is compared to the dark, thunderous clouds. So there are two aspects to this. One is the darkness, the thunderous nature of the clouds, which is compared to the circumstances an Uttara Bhadrapada native might go through. This constellation belongs to the phase of struggle before we transcend in life. That struggle could be due to a wrongdoing. We've taken upon a long penance to undo or repay for that wrongdoing. And here, that struggle can also be on a spiritual plane, where the person has made a relentless effort to detach oneself from the material world and transcend on a spiritual plane, which is strongly linked to the last constellation, Revati, which I'll be talking about later. And the second aspect of these dark, thunderous clouds is the rain itself, which is nourishing. So even if the native is going through darkness in life, it would nourish the soul. That's how I see it. So an Uttara Bhadrapada native, having gone through such difficult times in one's life, this constant, long struggle, the native will come across as an archetype, wise old person, and could end up motivating others through one's life experience. Like the native would be known to educate others that I have struggled.
I followed this path. This is what I learned. You could avoid these pitfalls. We must not forget this constellation falls in the sign ruled by Jupiter. So the native can make an excellent educator, a spiritual counsellor, a yoga teacher, a healer, a religious leader, and even an astrologer. So the native is nourishing the society with one's own life experience. I'd earlier mentioned that the native can transcend on a spiritual plane. One of the symbols linked to this constellation is the back legs of a funeral cot, where we begin our journey after we've passed on from this material world on a spiritual plane. So we prepare for the next part. I think the native's character would also be of someone who's very reserved, someone who is a good observer, speaks only when necessary, and lastly would have the power of empathy. A lot would also depend where your rising falls in the Navamsha. So if it's the sign of Leo, the native would also possess leadership qualities.
The leadership style would be such that everyone would feel part of the team. This can even translate to the native possessing a position of high responsibility in the society. That would be the impression you'd leave on people, that this person can take on this big project, this big responsibility. So if it's the sign of Virgo, the native would also be known for one's intellect, one's logic. The native would know how to harness this Mercurian quality responsibly, how to solve issues without public display of one's intelligence, one's capabilities. And that's another quality an Uttara Bhadrapada native would possess. The native would have extraordinary abilities, extraordinary resilience, but would not resort to public display of ability. So modesty would also be part of the native's character. So if it's the sign of Libra, the native would have an attractive personality and would also be known for one's diplomatic skills. And if it's the sign of Scorpio, the warrior side of this constellation would be more visible. However, since Saturn is ruling the constellation, Jupiter is the sign ruler, the fight fought by the native would be within reason. So even if the fighting process, the time spent fighting brings phases of darkness, the native would have the resilience to fight through those challenges.
Warrior Examples
And to highlight the warrior aspect of this constellation, I'd like to share the first example of Che Guevara, who has his rising as Uttara Bhadrapada and Mars also in his chart is in Uttara Bhadrapada. So Mars is known to be a warrior. It's in the constellation, in the first house itself, belonging to a warrior. That's his personality. And furthermore, Uttara Bhadrapada's ruler, Saturn, Saturn too, is in Jyeshtha. Jyeshtha is also strongly linked to fighting a war. So whatever may be his reasons, his chart is suggesting he's a warrior. Even if you look at his Navamsha chart, Mars falls in the sign of Leo, ruled by Sun, and Sun is in Krittika. Krittika again is linked to fighting a battle. So I'm trying to highlight the warrior aspect of this constellation. And I'm also trying to highlight the long phase of fighting, which can be perceived as darkness, which is linked to Uttara Bhadrapada. So it's not about winning the battle. It's about experiencing the struggle of a long fight. Another great example is of Queen Elizabeth. She has Mercury in Uttara Bhadrapada. And so the native, with this position, is likely to say what one has to say patiently and responsibly.
She was known for her measured speech. In another parallel example, this can translate to an editor. Whatever is said by a Mercury in Uttara Bhadrapada native, the words have to be carefully chosen. Abraham Lincoln is another example. He has Venus in Uttara Bhadrapada, and then Saturn is in Anuradha. Saturn in Anuradha is linked to honesty. So when Venus is there in Uttara Bhadrapada, the native is likely to be an attractive personality fighting a long battle honestly. He was known for his honesty. That's the point I want to highlight. So Venus, Uttara Bhadrapada, Saturn, Anuradha. Srinivasa Ramanujan is another great example. I'd mentioned holding on to what one is doing for a long time.
And that's highlighted by the presence of Moon in his chart, which is in Uttara Bhadrapada. So in his case, he's holding on to his research. He's holding on to his mathematical formulas. Why? Uttara Bhadrapada's ruler Saturn is in Pushya. So here the effort that he's making is linked to Pushya as Saturn is occupying the constellation. Versus we saw in the case of Che Guevara, it was the constellation of Jyeshtha, which is directly linked to fighting a battle. Whereas in his case, that battle is in the education sphere as that's directly linked to Pushya. So studying the constellation ruler and its position is super important. So hopefully these examples made sense.
Moon in Uttara Bhadrapada
Emotional construct
When Moon is in Uttara Bhadrapada, this aspect of this constellation of nourishing others through one's experience would be more visible. The native would be a mature person. And based on one's life experience, the native would be guiding others. This nakshatra falls in the sign ruled by Jupiter.
And therefore, the native would be a natural teacher or may combine teaching with healing in some ways. The native can also be inclined towards social work. The native would possess the mind of a person who's very determined. The native would be resilient, persistent.
So it's a case where the native wouldn't change one's mind or wouldn't move away from one's commitment. And that's going to be one of the most endearing qualities the native would possess. Reasonability, compassion, empathy would be the other qualities the native would be known for. And perhaps most importantly, the native would have the maturity to accept difficult circumstances.
The native will go along with what life has to offer. So altogether, I think the native would be a very reliable person capable of shouldering high responsibility. That's my view.
Sun in Uttara Bhadrapada
Leadership and spiritual inclination
When Sun is in Uttara Bhadrapada, firstly, the native would be spiritually inclined. You must not forget, this constellation falls in the last sign, Pisces. And Jupiter is ruling that sign. So spiritual inclination, particularly when Sun is present in this constellation would be very visible.
Uttara Bhadrapada is a phase when the native is learning through life experience to give up on material desires. It's a phase of going through that uncomfortable time before you have that realization, that upliftment, you transcend on a spiritual plane, which I believe is more linked to the last constellation, Revati. So in many ways, this constellation is preparation for the process of transcending higher. And with that spiritual inclination, the native would also be known for one's maturity.
There would be a philosophical purpose behind the native's work. The native would want to be able to serve the society. This combination can belong to political figures, to social workers, to bureaucrats, or to other C-level executives in the private sector, who are an inspiration due to their wisdom, their philosophical thinking. One of the greatest qualities the native would have would be fulfilling one's promise.
This Dhruva aspect, so strongly linked to this constellation, gets strengthened when Sun is there. The native could be seen as a peaceful warrior, leading the charge in the society to bring a change, fighting a long-drawn battle, ready to face the challenges like the ones who take on a hunger strike. They're ready to suffer, to bring a change in the society, to heal the society, to nourish the society with a better way of life, like the spiritual organisation promoting the art of living. So there's always going to be a higher purpose behind your professional endeavours.
Sun and Saturn don't share a good relationship, so there's every chance of you clashing with authority figures in your life, particularly when you're going through Sun Antardasha, and therefore you'll have to be a bit more careful. The good news is even when the outcome of those clashes is in your favour, people rally behind you, you don't put the other person down. You have the maturity that the only way forward is by letting go of ego. I think this is one of the positions where Sun is able to understand it.
Altogether I think this position is a strong position leading to a public figure who's going to end up inspiring people. That's my view.
Mars in Uttara Bhadrapada
Courage and action
When Mars is in Uttara Bhadrapada, I think you'd be known for your technical expertise. If you are working in the engineering sector, your technical skills would be unparalleled. This obviously would be seen if Mars is linked to one of your career-related houses. Secondly, Mars brings that competitiveness and Saturn brings that resilience.
Together, this can lead to a profession in the field of law. If Mars is governing the house related to your personality, you'd be a warrior willing to fight till the end. And no amount of discomfort would deter you. Once you've made up your mind, once you've entered the battlefield, you'll go all out.
This combination can also belong to military leaders, even politicians. The native could also be excellent at looking after people. Having gone through struggles in one's life, the native can then start sharing one's experience with others, like a sports instructor. That instructor who has gone through many competitions in one's life has learned a lot from those experiences, is now sharing with youngsters.
Mars is known to go to the extreme and this constellation has a tamasic guna. So there's every chance the native can start a battle and may not know when to end. The native may continue to fight and fight and the native may continue to disregard one's suffering for the sake of one's fight, which doesn't help the native's cause but ends up affecting the native's mental and physical health. Besides this, I think the native would be a one-person army.
The native would be willing to do everything necessary to win a battle, to continue to fight, to continue to remain in the fight, and that is going to be one of the most inspiring qualities. I altogether find this position to be a strong one, particularly as the relationship Mars shares with Saturn and Jupiter is a friendly one. That's my view.
Mercury in Uttara Bhadrapada
Intellect and communication skills
When Mercury is in Uttara Bhadrapada, I think you'd be known for your measured speech. Earlier I had shared the example of Queen Elizabeth. You may find yourself in a position where you have to carefully choose your words. So you can be an editor or a public relations manager.
Secondly, your analytical ability now is combined with Saturn, which brings the qualities of perseverance, and therefore you'd make an excellent problem solver. Mercury signifies businesses, and I think you'll understand the risks involved in the business sector. So it's a case where you have this knack for numbers, you're excellent at data analysis, you also at the same time have an understanding of the risks involved. So here you are not only looking at numbers, you're also trying to make sense of numbers.
You sit back and look at an Excel model to try to assess what is it saying? Is the information reliable? Were the variables properly selected? So that maturity and wisdom is coupled by your analytical ability, making this a very formidable position.
This fickle-mindedness linked strongly to Mercury, the restlessness strongly linked to Mercury is contained. You find a way to focus over a long time. You also develop the patience to learn continually over a long time. You make an excellent student, you're very dedicated, and that dedication is due to Jupiter and Saturn's influence.
It's a combination where the person attaches a very high value to fulfilling one's promise. And lastly, I think given this constellation belongs to the caste of a Kshatriya, you may find yourself in a position where you are making an argument to disprove the other person's, the opposing party's opinions, like a barrister or a political figure saying the facts and figures presented by that political party, they are wrong. I have done a detailed analysis and this is what I've found. So in conversations, you'll not only be patient and conservative, you'd also be highly competitive.
Jupiter in Uttara Bhadrapada
Knowledge and exposure
When Jupiter is in Uttara Bhadrapada, I think the native has the ability to use one's knowledge and experience responsibly. Knowledge itself can be harmful. A chemical experiment, for example, can be a disaster if proper safety standards are not followed. And a Jupiter Uttara Bhadrapada native can be relied upon to follow the rules, to follow the regulations, to follow the safety standards, whether it's a chemistry lab or training a pilot to fly an aircraft.
Knowledge has to be transferred responsibly and also the wisdom to comprehend the outcome of discoveries. Discoveries are beneficial, but not always. The discovery of the atom bomb, for example, could lead to disaster. The native would understand the difference between the commercial aspect of one's knowledge and discoveries and what is beneficial for the society.
The native would have that understanding of the difference. So this combination, in my view, makes excellent researchers. Researchers who primarily are driven by ethics. They're serving the society.
Jupiter and Saturn are coming together. This can even lead to spiritual leaders who are helping us see the futility of going after things of the world, name and fame. And they also have the wisdom to know who can follow that path, who cannot. I think the native would be an excellent judge of people, of situations, of circumstances, and would make an excellent counsellor, a mentor, a trainer of some kind.
This can even translate to the native's job being in judiciary. This isn't the best combination if foreign travel is high on your agenda, and Jupiter is linked to one of the travel-related houses, as Jupiter here is in the constellation belonging to the nature of Dhruva, which isn't to do with travel. So here, I think the native's exposure, similar to the exposure of foreign travel, would come through learning about life from the privacy of the library, for example, rather than travelling. The native could also be an expert in an ancient science of some kind, and the greatest quality the native would possess would be one's morality, wisdom, reasonableness, and empathy.
And one way or the other, the native would be seen as a teacher and mentor to people around oneself. I find this position to be a very, very strong one.
Venus in Uttara Bhadrapada
Creativity and love
When Venus is in Uttara Bhadrapada, firstly, you have a mature outlook when it comes to love. Your view on relationships and marriage would be on the conservative side, and you'll value loyalty and fulfilling your duty towards one another very much. Secondly, when it comes to materialistic pleasures, Venus signifies money there too. Your desires are going to be conservative.
You would be much more realistic. There's no point buying a fancy car if the idea is transportation. When it comes to art, I think you'll make an excellent art director. I think you'd see beauty in simple things, particularly things that have been in existence for a long time.
So you could be a student of an ancient art of some kind. And within the business sector, you could find yourself as a relationship manager, a human resources manager. As you have that maturity to understand what people are going through, what they might be going through, the power of empathy is strongly linked to this constellation. And Venus is an excellent relationship builder.
This can even translate to you being a mediator, negotiator of some kind. I find Venus and Saturn sharing an excellent relationship, making this position a very strong one in my view.
Saturn in Uttara Bhadrapada
Hard work and service
When Saturn is in Uttara Bhadrapada, there are many aspects to this position. Let's start with the strengths. Patience, perseverance, resilience, conservatism, empathy, service-orientedness, and an undying fighting spirit. Those are some positives.
Whereas, on the negative side, the native can be prone to resisting change. The native may get too comfortable in one's position, in one's relationships, in one's circumstances, that the native may fail to explore life fully, or may fail to capitalise on growth opportunities, as the native is resisting change. And that is a shortcoming the native would need to overcome. The native's duty-bound nature and responsible behaviour would shine through.
If Saturn, for example, in your chart is linked to the house related to your personality, then people would always rely on you, or you'll be perceived as someone who can shoulder high responsibility. This can translate to you being a bureaucrat responsible for a city or a political figure. And your way of life, although conservative, would be driven by a philosophy, Saturn and Jupiter coming together. This combination can also lead to researchers, where you've decided on a path, and you're following that path relentlessly.
You're unwilling to give up. With the passage of time, if Saturn, for example, is linked to your career, you'd be a master in your field. And that'll be largely due to your experience. This position, however, can create delays in life.
If, for example, it's linked to the marriage house, you're likely to marry late. Whatever you're going to experience in life, you'd value it much more due to this delay. So here, Saturn is in its own constellation. So the best of Saturn is experienced here, along with what Saturn brings into our life.
Altogether, this position is a strong position. Slowly and steadily, people would begin to value your presence, your loyalty, your persistence, your hard work, and your mastery.
Rahu in Uttara Bhadrapada
The future
When Rahu is in Uttara Bhadrapada, I think this position can lead to two extremes, where Rahu is constantly trying to bring change and experience new things. Uttara Bhadrapada is all about staying in one position. This together can lead to a researcher who, by being in the constraints of one's research lab, is discovering things which have an impact on the entire world. So it's a case where there are boundaries and there's exposure at the same time.
And that is also likely to be the native's character, that the native is living in a small city which has many restrictions, but the native has found a way to get in touch with people from many different corners of the world. So you find a way to break free from constraints. So if this position falls in the first house, the native would be a rebel. The native would even challenge authority figures and even the law.
The native would be forward-looking. The native may even use the knowledge of an ancient science and apply it in the modern world, like understanding Ayurveda and presenting Ayurveda in a futuristic way, like presenting it on TikTok instead of practicing it one-to-one, face-to-face. One of the major issues would be the native's inability to break free from the shackles due to Saturn. And in that scenario, the native can resort to addictions.
The Tamasic darkness linked to this constellation would be seen in this way, where the native has taken an extreme step to escape something else, but has created another problem. And that is likely to be one of the major challenges with this position. Altogether, I find this to be a difficult position. Proper guidance would be necessary, that's my view.
Ketu in Uttara Bhadrapada
Past
When Ketu is in Uttara Bhadrapada, the Tamasic side, the darkness linked to this constellation would be visible, and that can translate to the native seeking solitude. And this desire for solitude could be a form of penance for a wrongdoing. This combination can also belong to researchers whose research is also driven by a natural intuition. Their intuitive ability plays an important role.
The native could be an expert in an ancient science of some kind. The native would make an excellent strategic planner. The native can go to the extreme, and like Rahu in this constellation, the native can also fall prey to addictions. Both Ketu and Saturn are directly linked to isolationism, and this isolationist policy could make the native very spiritually inclined.
Although the journey might be troublesome, as the native might resort to self-harm. And that is going to be one of the challenges. In everything the native does, there'll always be an element of self-destruction which the native needs to be wary of. So this position, although it is a better position in my view than Rahu, proper guidance would be necessary.
