When Not to Quit Your Job

Introduction

So when might it not be a good time to quit your job? I understand at work we have phases, and there are phases when we feel like quitting our job and searching for a job thereafter, or we decide to run a business, or we take any other major risk as far as career is concerned. For example, we start focusing on a part-time activity which might affect your job. All of these scenarios—when would it not be a good time to follow these paths? I think if you were to follow these paths in the Dashas I'm going to list, you might complicate your situation rather than solving your situation.

Start from the foundation

But I like to start from the foundation. This is something I've learned from the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, volume two, in material dedicated to the Dashas. It says the general effects of the Dasha would relate to the general nature of the planet.

So if Saturn's Dasha is the Dasha you're going through, I begin with the general effects of Saturn, then check placement, rulership and the whole chart. So what I'm trying to do for you is without looking into your chart, just on the basis of the Dasha table, we can find out certain difficult Dashas for closer review. Actually, the whole birth chart needs to be read. That would always remain an important exercise. But certain key time phases can be identified which might be difficult; the table alone cannot decide.

Astrology is a reflective timing tool, not a direction to remain in an unsafe job or the sole basis for a career decision. Weigh finances, contracts, health and safety, and seek qualified advice.

Vimshottari sequence begins from the Moon

Well, let's start from the basics. If you look at this table, it's simple enough. There are nine Dasha rulers; each one of them is assigned, as per the Vimshottari Dasha system, a number of years they're going to rule our life. It uses a traditional 120-year cycle; Kali Yuga is Vedic mythology, not biology.

Now, where are you going to start this sequence? If, for example, the Moon in your chart is in a Venus-ruled Nakshatra, its ruler would be your starting point, which is Venus. So you are likely to experience the remaining balance of Venus Mahadasha first, followed by Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury and Ketu, and the sequence may continue if you go past 120 years. So this is the sequence.

The starting point will be determined by the Moon's Nakshatra and exact degree value. There is some logic to this. I connect the Vimshottari Dasha system to changing mental emphasis. Therefore, it's based on the progression of the Moon through its Nakshatra. The Moon is also directly linked to the Dasha system, further highlighting the importance of the Moon's position in your birth chart.

Read Mahadasha and Antardasha

Now, let's go one step further. The table here is now depicting all the Dasha levels and the length of time they're going to stay. Here is where I'm going to identify difficult Dashas for you.

The end of Jupiter Mahadasha

So the first is, if you're going through the end of Jupiter's Mahadasha, then I would say it's likely not a good time to take any kind of chance with regards to your career. Why is that? If you look at Jupiter's Mahadasha first, at the end of Jupiter's Mahadasha you would start Saturn's Mahadasha. That's the sequence I shared earlier.

The beginning of Saturn's Mahadasha, or a few weeks or months prior to it, is his broad buffer. If you take a big chance, you are likely to run into certain related issues of things getting stuck, not finding enough opportunities, etc., in his view—not guaranteed.

One Jupiter Antardasha exception

If you look at the Antardashas, within every Mahadasha, if you see, the Antardasha sequence would be that the Antardasha would be the same planet as the Mahadasha planet. So that's the logic there. And then the sequence follows. If, for example, you're going through Mars' Mahadasha, the Antardasha firstly would be Mars, then Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn and so on.

Now within these Antardashas, if you are at the end of Jupiter's Antardasha, that time phase would normally lead to Saturn's Antardasha. I would say that also is not a good time for you to consider a change; this is caution, not a decision.

There is one exception though. If the Mahadasha is of Saturn and the Antardasha is of Jupiter, at the end of Jupiter's Antardasha you're not going to enter Saturn's Antardasha. No, it's going to lead to Mercury's Mahadasha, beginning with Mercury Antardasha.

So the rule is, if you are at the end of Jupiter's Mahadasha, or if you're at the end of Jupiter's Antardasha with the exception that the Mahadasha should not be of Saturn, this time phase can be difficult in my view.

Mercury ends, Ketu begins

Similarly, I am also going to look at the end of Mercury's Mahadasha or Mercury's Antardasha. Why? Because after Mercury comes Ketu. So basically, I'm looking at a time phase just prior to the beginning of Saturn or Ketu's Dasha.

I associate Saturn with frustrations of delay and Ketu with frustrations of denial. If you are taking a chance in your career to expect something big in life, I would not assume massive success on a material plane, and that too quickly, from these factors alone.

So if you look at Mercury's Mahadasha as it approaches its end, you will be starting Ketu's Mahadasha. In my view, it's not a good idea to assume quick results. In fact, the last of Mercury's Mahadasha would be under Saturn's Antardasha. Except in Ketu's Mahadasha, Mercury Antardasha is final, followed by Venus Mahadasha.

The longer Saturn-to-Ketu transition

This is always going to be the flow. I would even say you shouldn't take any chance from the beginning of Saturn's Antardasha. This long phase is my conservative view, not an instruction. I know in a long time phase there would be cycles of some nature, but this is an exception.

Saturn's long Antardasha leading to Ketu's Mahadasha can lead to extraordinary change in life. Ketu's Mahadasha, in my view, is seen as new life, new circumstances, and I think during Saturn significant change can happen over its long Antardasha, leading to a significant change; you can think of Ketu's Mahadasha as a phase of new beginning of some kind.

Here, new life means changed circumstances, never death or self-harm.

Donald Trump's two Saturn periods

Let me take a quick example, Mr Donald Trump. If you look at his Saturn's Antardasha in the years 2019, 2020 and a year after that, right in the middle of Saturn's Antardasha he lost the 2020 election. His first term ended in January 2021; he returned on 20 January 2025.

And the logic I've shared so far is not only linked to Mahadasha and Antardasha. You can also apply it to the Pratyantardasha. If you look at the selected Dasha table corresponding to Mr Donald Trump, from late on 14 June 2026 in New York local time he entered Saturn's Pratyantardasha, within Jupiter Mahadasha and Venus Antardasha.

On 27 June 2026, he said, “Even now, there's likely to be some issues for him. I think he's losing popularity.” Saturn's Pratyantardasha is not going to have such a profound impact as the Antardasha would have, but in this dated forecast Saturn nonetheless was going to cause some concerns for him—not confirmation.

Operation Barbarossa near the Mercury-to-Ketu transition

The other example I can give you, if we apply the Antardasha rule now, is Adolf Hitler. If you look at the time he made what I call his biggest mistake, that was in June 1941. Nazi Germany launched Operation Barbarossa against the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, opening the eastern front, not the Second World War.

If you look at the Dasha table corresponding to his selected birth details, I place the invasion right at the end of Mercury's Antardasha or, we can say, right at the beginning of Ketu's Antardasha. So right throughout Ketu's Antardasha, the source says things did not go in his favour.

By the end of 1941, the short-war objective had failed: the offensive stalled near Moscow, the Soviet Union had not collapsed, and the wider war continued. Astrology does not excuse responsibility. I'm hoping this information is useful for you.
