The Most Difficult Time Period (Dasha)

Introduction

So which might be the worst time phase for a person to be going through based on the Dasha system, based on Vedic astrology? That's the purpose behind this article. This is my view of the Dasha system.

Read the three-level Dasha table

So have a look at this birth chart. Now we are going to move forward and we are going to look at the Dasha table here, where you'd find Time Period 1, 2 and 3. They represent the Mahadasha, Antardasha and Pratyantardasha.

Now, if you're going through the Dasha of Saturn, Rahu, Mars and Ketu, there's every chance you're going to run into complications. For example, on 31st of December 2025, this person is going through Rahu Mahadasha, Jupiter Antardasha and Mercury Pratyantardasha.

You can see here the end dates would be the beginning of the new time phase, and he's going to remain in this chapter till early April the coming year. In this dated sample, the exact active Mercury Pratyantardasha boundaries are 8 December 2025 and 11 April 2026. So yes, he's going through Rahu's Mahadasha, but Jupiter Antardasha and Mercury Pratyantardasha seem to be all right. Only Mercury Pratyantardasha ends then, not Rahu Mahadasha.

Identify the Rahu-Saturn pattern

Now, amongst the four planets I had mentioned earlier, Rahu, Saturn, Ketu and Mars, Saturn and Rahu's chapters are going to be the most difficult in my view. So if you're going through Rahu Mahadasha and Saturn Antardasha, or if you're going through Saturn Mahadasha and Rahu Antardasha, these are the two time periods I consider the most difficult phases of your life.

So how do you identify this? Let's stay with this Dasha table. You'd see here, late August 2027, he's going to enter Rahu Mahadasha and Saturn Antardasha. The boundary is 21 August 2027, and the end boundary is 28 June 2030. You'll get a pre-warning that the time phase coming up may not be the nicest, so you need to brace yourself.

Find the affected life area

Now, which phases of his life are going to be most affected by this difficult time phase? You'll have to study where Rahu and Saturn are placed in his main chart. You see here Saturn is placed in H7, the house linked to marriage. Therefore, in this interpretation, his troubles in life could be linked to marriage.

So if this person is in his 20s or even early 30s and is about to enter Rahu and Saturn's chapter, there's every chance getting married would become very difficult, or if you're married, there could be some challenges in your marriage. Similarly, had you found a strong influence from Rahu and Saturn on the house linked to career, then you're very likely to encounter career-related challenges under difficult Dashas.

They are possibilities, not certainties, and do not justify staying in unsafe circumstances or making career or financial decisions.

Understand the speed break

Now, I have taken the example of Rahu Mahadasha and Saturn Antardasha. Similarly, the Mahadasha could be Saturn and the Antardasha could be Rahu. You might ask me, amongst the two now, which is the most difficult? So let's step back a bit.

During Rahu Mahadasha, I think the native gets accustomed to experiencing new things. Things keep happening one after the other. Even if life is chaotic, it's a bit of an adventure ride. So you get accustomed to things moving along. As soon as you enter Saturn Antardasha within Rahu Mahadasha, you reach a speed break. So you feel the impact of Saturn Antardasha under Rahu Mahadasha much more.

Compare the uphill experience

If, for example, you've been going through Saturn Mahadasha, the Antardashas would be Saturn, Mercury, Ketu, Venus and so on. And eventually you'll reach Rahu Antardasha. Now during Saturn Mahadasha, you might get accustomed to having things moving along slowly in life.

So as soon as you enter Rahu Antardasha, you may experience some frustration. Rahu creates a strong desire to get things moving. Saturn is going to cause events in your life unfolding slowly. So it's like climbing uphill, basically. During Rahu Mahadasha and Saturn Antardasha, you experience a speed break, and I think the impact of that is felt much more.

If, for example, it's Saturn Mahadasha and Rahu Antardasha, I think you already know things haven't been moving along as quickly. And even if there's frustration that Rahu would bring into your life, I think you'll cope better. So the most difficult combination, in my view, is Rahu Mahadasha and Saturn Antardasha.

Prepare in advance

And if, in the coming year, you've identified from the Dasha table that you are going to enter this time phase, the purpose is preparation, not fatalism.

Remember the period ends

You must also remember that the entire Rahu and Saturn's chapter, which is going to be about two, three years long, you'll also go through Pratyantardashas. In this anonymous table it runs between the 21 August 2027 and 28 June 2030 boundaries. So it's not as if this entire long time phase is going to be very difficult.

And also this time phase is not timeless. You also know an end date. So all you can do is prepare yourself better. Knowing in advance that you are going to go through some difficulty helps you cope much better than having a sudden occurrence of difficulty.
