Ashlesha Nakshatra

Ashlesha is one of the most fascinating Nakshatras. It is very different from Pushya and Punarvasu, the other two Nakshatras in Cancer. As per mythology, Ashlesha is ruled by Lord Vasuki, the king of the serpents. We often attach a negative connotation to serpents, but we must understand this through mythology.

In the Bhagavad Gita, while explaining his role to Lord Arjuna, Lord Krishna says that among the serpents he is Lord Vasuki. He also says that among the Pandavas he is Lord Arjuna and gives several other examples. The point is that Lord Krishna regarded Lord Vasuki as the king of the serpents, and Lord Vasuki rules this Nakshatra. During the churning of the ocean, Lord Vasuki's body helped the gods and demons churn it. Lord Vishnu is also known to sit on the serpent Sheshnag, symbolising his close relationship with the serpents.

Similarly, Lord Shiva, or Lord Rudra, carries a snake around his neck. Serpents share a close relationship with the gods. Ashlesha therefore possesses the Sattvic guna, a selfless quality. Its methods may be extreme, but in most cases its intention is likely to be selfless.

Sun in Ashlesha

Sun in Ashlesha is likely to make you a leader of an outcast group. You may represent ideas which not necessarily conform to societal norms. Like an island, they have their own set of rules. Their leader says we are going to allow citizens of all countries to come to our island.

We don't believe in having visas etc. You represent unique ideas and you become a leader of those ideas. The person may however plan strategically to be in a position of a leader which may lead to the native following a path which isn't always right. Self-serving politicians is a prime example of Sun Ashlesha.

It's a difficult position for Sun as Sun represents consistency. On the other hand, this Nakshatra very strongly represents changeability. But in most cases it might lead to the person changing one's position to be in a position of a leader. The principles linked to Sun of nobility and consistency can get compromised.

The person can become power hungry, may not want to let go of power like we see in those ancient movies. A king does everything possible to stay in power. A Sun Ashlesha-like person can be excellent at defeating one's enemies. Sun belongs to the caste of a Kshatriya.

A warrior now also has the powers of strategic planning. This leads to planning a war in such a way that the opponents feel they are totally encircled. This can translate to the corporate world where a business leader has launched a campaign in such a way that it has left the opponents totally encircled. They have no answer.

If the other planets linked to Ashlesha are favourably placed, a Sun–Ashlesha person can become spiritually inclined and loyal to that cause. The selfless side so strongly linked to Ashlesha would then be more visible in the native's way of life. That's my view of the Sun in Ashlesha.
