Shatabhisha Nakshatra: characteristics, careers and personality

Shatabhishaka is the 24th Nakshatra, occupying 6 degrees 40 minutes to 20 degrees of Aquarius. It is ruled by Rahu. Here's what it represents:

Lord Varuna and Shatabhisha

The holy decrees enacted by Lord Vishnu are enforced by Lord Varuna. He maintains law and order, is true to eternal laws, and is worshipped for forgiveness for one’s sins and those of the ancestors. Those who are not forgiven face his many-fettered net. His net is equal to 100 shackles, which symbolizes the 100 stars that comprise this Nakshatra. These 100 stars are also symbolic of his all-seeing eyes. He’s privy to every misdeed. When two people sit together to plot and scheme, he is there to witness it. He makes the sinner accountable for even the smallest of sins. Nothing escapes his attention and he demands retribution for defying the universal laws. He insists on adherence to the law, atonement for all, and purification of “karma”.

Shatabhisha personality and characteristics

Lord Varuna is also the Lord of the oceans. Just as the surface of the oceans conceals all that lies underneath, he conceals the underlying nature of things with a covering layer that only his all-seeing eyes can pierce. Therefore, the native would be an analytical and logical thinker, researcher, explorer, investigator, detective, literary critic, cryptographer, mystery solver or puzzle maker, or would work in a seafaring profession. The native would be an introvert, may have deeply hidden secrets and would be unwilling to divulge inner feelings and emotions. The native may gravitate towards extremes such as cutting off ties with people, falling prey to addictions, particularly alcoholism, or retiring to the woods in search of a higher purpose in life. Lord Varuna carries a noose and a danda, which is a symbol of the sacred order. A noose is also carried by Goddess Nirrti and Lord Yama. Therefore, Lord Varuna, Lord Yama, and Goddess Nirrti are the keepers of our karmic account. Lord Varuna holds the rank of a king, the same held by Lord Indra. He’s equal in strength to Lord Indra. He’s rich, formidable, mighty, fierce, punishing, intolerant, and destroys the enemies of peace. The native would be righteous, noble and duty-bound, and would be relentless in the pursuit of upholding the law and restoring order. The native would be truthful but harsh in speech. Judges, politicians, writers, journalists, or social workers are also seen from this nakshatra. Lord Varuna afflicts the sinner with a serious illness that would need a metaphorical 100 physicians to cure, which is symbolic of Lord Varuna’s prowess. Fortunately, Lord Varuna is merciful: he absolves the sinner and restores good health. Medical researchers, pharmacists, physicians, surgeons, yoga teachers and meditation gurus are also seen from this Nakshatra. The most knowledgeable and philosophical side of Rahu, the planetary ruler of Shatabhisha, is experienced here. The native would be a bit eccentric and unconventional, due to Rahu’s rulership.
