Planets in Punarvasu Nakshatra
Introduction
Punarvasu falls in the sign of Gemini and Cancer and as per mythology is ruled by goddess Aditi. Goddess Aditi is the mother of all gods. She's the mother of all the gods we know to reside in the heavens. And that is why this Nakshatra is the most maternal section of the sky.
Goddess Aditi and Protection
So the entire healthcare sector is directly linked to Punarvasu. Goddess Aditi is known to be the provider of food, shelter and protection and therefore industries like the hospitality sector, from cafes to restaurants, from shelter homes to B&Bs to hostels, to hotels and to resorts, all of them are linked to Punarvasu. So if you have Punarvasu's strong influence in one of your career related houses, you might be working in one of these industries. I mentioned protection too and so all professions which are involved in protecting the society, like working in the armed forces, being a social activist against climate change, or a philosopher trying to change how society is run, or trying to change the society so it's protecting the rights of people. So once again she provides food, shelter and protection. The entire healthcare sector, hospitality, even the housing sector and industries linked to protecting our society are directly linked to Punarvasu. I'd also link public transport to the list of industries. Whilst travelling in a bus or in a train or in an airplane, we feel the comfort of our home.
That's the idea, isn't it? Airlines brand themselves as having your home in the sky, having the same peace as you'd have in your own living room. Trains convey a similar message. There are many overnight trains now which are becoming very popular. So you get the same facility or close to the same facility as you'd get in your home. Nice and comfortable and cosy cabin to travel from one part of the world to the other. Public transport is directly linked to Punarvasu. The Indian Railways, its slogan is lifeline of the nation.
I recently met someone who was working in Indian Railways and I found his chart having a strong Punarvasu's influence and that's why I'm taking the example of Indian Railways. The slogan, the lifeline of the nation, similar to how you would describe your mother. You'd call your mother in an emergency. She's your lifeline. So apart from the comfort of the journey, it's also acting as a lifeline which is very goddess Aditi- like and that is exactly what this Nakshatra is all about. Everyone welcome is the motto of this Nakshatra. Goddess Aditi is all-embracing. Her arms are wide open.
Repeated Opportunities
There's another interesting aspect to Punarvasu and that's to do with its name. Punarvasu translates to being wealthy again. Punarvasu, being wealthy again. Here wealth can also be linked to knowledge or linked to morality, being moral again or following the right path again. It can also however be linked to wealth itself or gains of any kind, repeated gains. Life is going to give you an opportunity to gain something again. If the ruler of the house of marriage falls in the Nakshatra of Punarvasu, if you've had a failed marriage, then you do get another opportunity to build your life again with someone else. Just like the mother is ready to give the child another chance.
You failed this time, try again. If you've had a failed venture, a business venture, and if you have Punarvasu's influence on the houses related to business, you might get the opportunity to build a business again. Getting an opportunity again to get things right is also directly linked to Punarvasu. This can also be applied to other industries we have linked to Punarvasu, like the hotels industry. The idea is to provide us a comfortable accommodation but also safety. Safety again. We have the safety of our home and now we find ourselves in a new place. We need a safe place and that is Punarvasu linked.
So we find ourselves feeling safe again. Getting opportunities again. Gaining again. Feeling safe again. That is also linked to Punarvasu. So if there has been a loss of wealth due to certain circumstances in your life and you find Punarvasu's influence on the house of money, there's a chance that you might be able to regain lost wealth. Now how is this Nakshatra classified? This Nakshatra has the Guna of Sattvic which translates to selfless behavior.
Nature and Classification
Given what I've shared with you so far, I'm very sure you wouldn't question this classification. There's a mythology linked to this classification as well and that is during the creation process goddess Aditi sacrificed her last born son to start the human race. So she sacrificed for the larger good. Like a mother giving up a son who is serving the nation in the armed forces. So this Nakshatra has that selfless side, that self-sacrificing side. Interestingly, this Nakshatra has the caste belonging to a merchant. So it's likely that the industries I had mentioned to you earlier, you might find yourself involved in the business linked to those industries. We must look at this classification more closely.
If let's say there's an Airbnb that is a business, yes, but there are some owners of the Airbnb who would make the extra effort to guide you. They'll let you know the directions, where the house is located, your room is located. On arrival, they'll welcome you, they'll guide you on different restaurants and places to see around and you'll feel instantly at home. That warmth and affection you're likely to experience when you find yourself experiencing a Punarvasu related business. So here business which is built on the foundation of warmth and love. Therefore, this classification needed a closer examination. Punarvasu's planetary ruler is Jupiter. And therefore, I believe this Nakshatra has the Gana of Deva.
Jupiter symbolizes morality and its rulership of this Nakshatra justifies this classification. And lastly, this Nakshatra has the nature of Chara, which translates to movable, which is directly linked to the travel sector. Why is that? Firstly, Jupiter signifies travel. And secondly, all businesses that I have listed down for you, which are linked to Punarvasu one way or the other, they are linked to travelers. Whether you're going somewhere in a train or you are checking into a hotel or you need protection and therefore you get a travel insurance. All professions which are somehow providing protection to travelers are linked to Punarvasu. The native might be very fond of travel and expand one's horizon of love and affection beyond your family to the world.
Mythology and Examples
That's my view. Goddess Aditi is married to Sage Kashyapa, who's known to be one of the seven divine sages guiding human race for millions of years before a new cycle starts. And this responsibility is passed on to different sages. One of the oldest sages is Sage Kashyapa, who's known to be the husband of Goddess Aditi. And together they give birth to the gods. And similarly, Sage Kashyapa is also married to Diti. And together they give birth to all demonic forces. There has to be a balance in the creation. And amongst the demonic figures is Rahu. So this is a story of how Rahu was born. Rahu, during the churning of the ocean, drank the nectar of immortality and Lord Vishnu slashed his head. So the top part of his head became Rahu, which we call as the north node of the Moon. We take that into account while studying astrology. And the bottom half below the head became the south node of the Moon known as Ketu. As per astrology, I see Rahu linked to the future and Ketu linked to the past. This is a side story which I wanted to share alongside the story of Goddess Aditi and the Nakshatras of Punarvasu.
Now, three great examples I'd like to share. The first one is of Richard Branson, an odd example, you'd assume, as this Nakshatra has a very strong maternal side. But let's look at one of his businesses. His business is Virgin Atlantic Airlines. And earlier I had mentioned public transport is directly linked to Punarvasu. He has Sun in his chart in the first house in Punarvasu, which signifies that he's likely to be a business leader. And business can be linked to one of the industries linked to Punarvasu. I also find in his chart Jupiter in Shatabhisha. And that is a lot to do with exploration, even space exploration. His most recent venture, even though it failed, known as Virgin Orbit, where he wanted to let individuals, not governments alone, launch satellites, is directly linked to the Nakshatra of Shatabhisha. The other great example is of Nelson Mandela. Even though his time of birth is questionable, it doesn't change that on that day, Sun was in Punarvasu. So this aspect of Punarvasu linked to protecting the society can be due to Sun's presence in Punarvasu in his chart. That is my view. And lastly, the example I had mentioned I'd share with you later is of Karl Marx. He has Mars in Punarvasu.
And Punarvasu's planetary ruler, Jupiter, is in Purva Ashadha. How I see this coming together is that he's protecting the society. That's the function of Mars. That is the function of Punarvasu. How is he protecting the society? Through his knowledge, Jupiter in Purva Ashadha. So he's presenting a purified version of his research. And he's trying to protect the society. I have no views on his philosophy. I don't understand it. And I feel even if I spent time on it, I wouldn't understand it. But astrologically, I can see that his life, his work, was centered around protection through his knowledge. That's my view. He has other planetary positions too which explain his life. But I wanted to highlight Mars, Punarvasu, and its role in his life. So if you have Punarvasu as your rising, you'll have a personality of a person who's very welcoming, very maternal, very caring.
Navamsha Signs
If the sign is Gemini, you're also going to be very social, very expressive, very lucky. Why lucky? You might find an opportunity to do what you failed at. Again, that's linked to Punarvasu, which I'd shared with you earlier. A lot would depend on the Nakshatra ruler, which is Jupiter. And the sign ruler, which would be either Mercury or Moon. You must also see where Punarvasu falls in the Navamsha. And it's likely to fall, or it's going to fall, in the first four signs.
Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and Cancer. So if it's in the sign of Aries, Mars is also having a say in describing your personality. So you'll be a bit more protective of people. Your expression of care would be by providing protection, like an elder brother protecting one's younger siblings. So you may treat your friends that way, that I'll drive, I drive safely, you sit at the back. So you take that responsibility. If the sign is Taurus, then your expression of care is going to be through love. You're going to be someone very reliable, very attractive.
If it's Gemini, you're going to be very social, very restless. You'll be very expressive about how you feel. If a business has touched your heart with their warmth, you'll want to write about them on the internet. You might treat your friends like family. And if the sign is Cancer, it's all about expressing your emotions and expressing your maternal side. People are going to feel your warmth and affection more than the other three Padas in the sign of Cancer. Here, the position of Moon would be very important. So whilst understanding your rising as Punarvasu, you must take into account the planets that are also linked to that position.
Moon in Punarvasu
Emotional construct
When Moon is in Punarvasu, the person naturally is going to be kind, sensitive, nurturing, caring, and very protective of people around oneself. Any profession which requires taking care of others is going to be well suited for the person, particularly if Moon is linked to one of the career-related houses. Moon Punarvasu is sort of like a combination belonging to a queen, a very kind queen who's going around one's kingdom to help people, offering people food, offering people shelter, offering people land. Moon is linked to royalty, so it's likely you are seen as someone who people look up to for help and guidance.
Why guidance? We must not forget this Nakshatra's planetary ruler is Jupiter. This is an excellent combination to build your career as a counsellor, particularly if the sign is Gemini. Moon is also at times linked to businesses, and this Nakshatra is linked to businesses, and therefore running a business is not a bad idea.
You'd understand what it takes to run a business. You'll understand the ethics involved. Like you come across a business which says that we have a fair price policy. If you feel any product or service is overpriced, let us know.
Or in other businesses, they offer you a refund, full refund, if you feel dissatisfied. Such businesses and business practices, in my view, are linked to Moon Punarvasu. The person would take great interest in conservation of natural resources, protecting the society in some ways. And lastly, the person is going to have a very forgiving, self-sacrificing nature.
Altogether, this is a very strong position, in my view.
Sun in Punarvasu
Leadership and spiritual inclination
Sun Punarvasu is likely to lead to business leadership. Either the person is a business leader, or the person inspires other businesses in some ways through some policy. It can be that you are a politician, and you build a policy in such a way that encourages other businesses to follow that path. Like as a policy, you encourage them to start using an alternate fuel like hydrogen.
So that is the policy. And then airlines then start following. Business owners of those airlines have to follow that. So you become a source of inspiration for businesses in one way or the other.
Like in the airlines industry, some businesses, some airlines offer free food. And the food is very elaborate. They keep offering you food throughout your journey. The ones who offer you facilities and food are very Sun Punarvasu-like.
And with such initiatives, you might encourage other airlines to follow your lead. That is how I imagine a Sun Punarvasu-like person to be. The person's career can be in healthcare. Sun is known to eradicate diseases.
And this Nakshatra is a lot about taking care of people. Here the person can run one's own hospital, for example. Sun is known for nobility and consistency. And this Nakshatra has a lot of reliability.
And so the person can even be a politician. People rely on that person. Sun is known to burn relations. Ego comes in the way.
And a Sun-like person can have issues with business partners, for example. But Punarvasu might give you a second chance. Like the story of Steve Jobs. He doesn't have Punarvasu's influence.
But I'm referring to his story because he lost his position. And then he regained it. He burned relations with investors. That's what I remember.
And then he came back to the company. He, incidentally, is a Sun-like person. The ruler of the first house in his chart is Sun. He got a second chance.
And a similar second chance can be given to you if you have Sun in Punarvasu. That is how I see it. The whole chart would have to be read. But in some cases, this combination can lead to you playing the role of a mother and a father to your children.
Or your father playing the role of a father and a mother in your life. If Sun is in Gemini and in Punarvasu, the person's style of speaking would be very authoritative. The person could be seen as an inspiration and at the same time a comfort giver. Like people feel when I listen to this person speak, I get a sense of reliability.
I feel comforted. Like during war, a politician is required to make a statement. So sometimes those statements are very reassuring. Don't worry, we have it under control.
A Sun-Gemini-Punarvasu-like person would have the capability to give people reassurance at times of difficulty. The person may take on big issues in the world like conserving natural resources or protecting our borders. Altogether, this is a very strong position. Sun-Punarvasu, Punarvasu's ruler Jupiter and Sun share an excellent relationship.
If there's a bit of travel that's going to be part of the person's journey, it's likely to be more relocation. The person is given charge of a new office in a new location. So travel is linked to career and is more like a relocation rather than traveling often. That's my view of Sun in Punarvasu.
Mars in Punarvasu
Courage and action
A Mars-Punarvasu-like person, would protect others. And that is their way of expressing their maternal side. It's by offering protection. A soldier on the battlefield can also be Mars Punarvasu-like.
Earlier, I had taken the example of a philosopher protecting the society through one's philosophies, through one's ideas. In that person's case, Punarvasu fell in the sign of Gemini. And Gemini is to do with ideas. So protection becomes the main function.
And in the IT sector, it can lead to cyber security. You are protecting your clients against fraud. You're protecting your clients against cyber attacks. Or in the finance sector, you're working as a risk manager, protecting your company from investing badly, thereby protecting the money of their customers.
So protection becomes the main theme of this position. Mars is very entrepreneurial, very innovative, and is not afraid to take chances. Business is a great option if you have Mars in Punarvasu. What's going to also happen is, even if you fail, there's some possibility that you might get another chance to redo things or do things better or start something else.
Learn your lesson from the first and do it better the second time around. Mars is known to be technically very sound. And here, the person can be involved on the technical side of these industries, like being a surgeon or an architect. The housing sector is linked to Punarvasu.
And Mars has the technical ability. The person can be a builder of cafes, for example. The person can build a business linked to hostels. One of my friends, he started Zostel.

See, Mars is known for Tamasic energy. And this Nakshatra has Sattvic energy. So I think the native is likely to go to the extreme to offer help. Sometimes the protection provided by the native may not be required by the ones who are getting the protection.
Like a politician says, this region now is vulnerable. And therefore, we need to have the army protecting this region. Even though the act is to protect that region, the residents feel, no, it wasn't required. It's very extreme.
That is likely to happen with this combination. Mars is very action-oriented. So even though those actions may appear to be not required, the intention would always be divine, as this Nakshatra has that classification. And the self-sacrificing nature can lead to the native sacrificing one's life on the battlefield.
That's an extreme example. It can also be in manufacturing of automobiles, which incidentally are also directly linked to Punarvasu. Punarvasu is linked to public transport. Not only that, even the automobile sector.
So in a manufacturing unit, the standards are not as per expectation. So this engineer says, I'm going to resign. That's a very Mars Punarvasu-like step to take. The person takes ownership, but goes to the extreme.
That's my view of Mars in Punarvasu.
Mercury in Punarvasu
Intellect and communication skills
So Mercury in Punarvasu is a combination belonging to a business person. Mercury belongs to a merchant and so does this Nakshatra. There's a long list of industries linked to Punarvasu. Hospitality, healthcare, housing, public transport, linked to the environment, linked to the society, etc.
So the person is likely to be in a business firstly of some kind. It's a strong combination. It has to be seen what role Mercury is playing in your chart. But it does signify if not a business, you understand business very well.
It can also lead to a career in business advisory or if Mercury is found in the sign of Cancer in this Nakshatra, a career as a counselor is also a high possibility. And with businesses, Mercury, if it's found in Punarvasu, the person may have an opportunity to redo a business or start another business, even if one business has failed. So you must remain very optimistic about your future as a business person like startups. Startup owners say that they launched a business, failed a few times before they finally decided this is the business I want to be in.
They were able to raise funds, etc. So that can happen if Mercury is in Punarvasu. Naturally, the Dashas have to be studied, but you must remain optimistic. You can also study business if you'd like to study further.
Education in the business sector is a great option for you. The person can also have a future being a spokesperson for businesses linked to all the industries I've mentioned or even the government sector. The person is a spokesperson on behalf of the government. The person is explaining what government initiatives are being taken to control climate change, for example.
The person is going to be very restless. This Nakshatra belongs to the nature of Chara. So the person may have one idea today. Three days later, there's another idea.
So when I say restless, I'm referring mainly to the person being restless on a mental plane, where the person has many different ideas floating. This can be done, we can do that. This would be a better way of helping customers. The person can have a future in customer care.
That industry is directly linked to Mercury and Punarvasu. The person is also going to be very fond of travel and very fond of learning about different languages and cultures, particularly if the sign is Gemini. You are going to be very social and very loved in the society. I think your manner of speaking would be such that people would instantly feel happy speaking to you.
They'll feel, you know, the last time I spoke to you, I felt so good. Something on those lines. That is the vibe you're likely to exude through your manner of speaking in particular. The person could be very maternal towards one's friends and is also likely to expect that warmth from them.
Earlier I had mentioned that you might consider your friends as family. This is a combination that says that. The person's basic nature would be everyone welcome. The person would be very embracing, very flexible.
This is an interesting combination as intelligence is now combined with our maternalistic side. So here, if the person is saying anything, it's going to be logical and at the same time is also going to take into account the emotions. Jupiter in Punarvasu
Knowledge and exposure
When Jupiter is there in Punarvasu, I think the aspect of this Nakshatra providing you an opportunity again, if you failed in something, gets doubled here. As Jupiter signifies growth opportunities as well. So together, it's a very strong position. Life is going to be kind.
If you fail, you might get another chance. So you are going to be firstly very lucky. Secondly, if you are involved in businesses, you run your business to the highest standard of moral ethics. You might run a business which is carbon neutral.
These days, we hear businesses becoming more and more conscious about climate issues. The person can get to travel repeatedly in one's life. Foreign travel, exposure to different cultures can be part of the person's life. The person can also become very lucky to find a teacher in one's life who's like a mother to the person.
The person may end up playing that role in the life of others, protecting people through one's knowledge. The person can be an advisor in the healthcare sector, like in the UK, you first meet a GP, a general practitioner, who then advises you what specialised treatment is required for you. The person would make an excellent motivator, counsellor, public speaker, business advisor, a consultant of any kind, particularly if the sign is Gemini. I think the person's consultancy and advisory skills are going to be unparalleled, then the person is going to come across as very trustworthy.
The person can also have a career in judiciary. Here, a person can reach the highest office where decisions are made affecting our society. We are now removing the restrictions on gay marriage. We are embracing homosexuality.

That I have to sacrifice living with my family to study further in this new institute, which is far away from my home. On a higher plane, the person can sacrifice living with one's family for the sake of a higher purpose, raising the issues of one's country to the world.
The person even moving away in pursuit of spirituality, that's the higher purpose and sacrificing the comforts of one's home life for the sake of that. Jupiter in Punarvasu is a very interesting position and a very strong position. And if you have it, then you should consider yourself to be very lucky.
Venus in Punarvasu
Creativity and love
When Venus is in Punarvasu, the person is very loving and caring, particularly if the sign is Gemini. Venus shares an excellent relationship with Mercury, which is Gemini's planetary ruler. So Venus-Punarvasu-Gemini, the person can even be a creative writer. And when you read the person's writings, you feel the warmth, you feel good instantly.
The person can be an artist creating music or art which instantly puts you in a great mood. These days, I listen to dreamscapes. When you listen to them, they instantly put you in a great mood. You feel very warm.
They can put you to sleep actually. And that is somewhat linked to Venus- Punarvasu, particularly the sign of Gemini. In terms of love, you'll want your partner to express love, care, warmth and affection just like you would. So the pillars of your relationship or the pillars on which you'll decide whether you like someone or not romantically would be love and affection and warmth.
How comfortable you felt, how warm did you feel when you met your partner for the first time. So that is a very Venus-Punarvasu-like thing to have happened. And lastly, a few examples like a cafe encouraging people to sit around and feel like home. Or an Airbnb where you feel very welcomed. Such businesses are also linked to Venus in Punarvasu.
That's my view.
Saturn in Punarvasu
Hard work and service
Right, when Saturn is in Punarvasu, I see the protection that Punarvasu is strongly linked to is now happening within boundaries. There's rules and regulations. Like an elder care home is a great example of Saturn Punarvasu. Care is provided, but within boundaries.
There are rules. There's a time for lunch. There's a time to go out. There's a time for visitors to visit.
The person can take on a big fight. The person can be a social worker, an activist, taking on a big issue. Saturn signifies long-term effort towards one goal. Persistence towards one's goal.
And Punarvasu has this maternal side. So I don't think Saturn Punarvasu is going to do something which is on a small scale. The person would like to protect the society on the whole. Saturn is known to bestow unparalleled technical skills.
And therefore, the person can be a surgeon. The person can also be very surgical in offering one's help. The person is going to be very detail-oriented. No detail is missed.
So if you've sought someone's help who's Saturn Punarvasu, the person would make sure that the help is provided. There are no details which were skipped. And every assistance was provided responsibly. I've been watching this program called Escape to the Country, where they offer you houses in the countryside.
And I remember one lady had an excel sheet of different parameters on which she'd like to evaluate the property on. That's a very Saturn Punarvasu-like thing to have happened. Saturn is all about doing things very methodically. And Punarvasu is directly linked to the housing sector.

And therefore, the person can be in the business of providing a service in the industries directly linked to Punarvasu, which I'd listed down for you earlier. That's my view.
Rahu in Punarvasu
The future
Rahu in Punarvasu translates to firstly a healer who's unconventional. The methods, the medicine or the personality is unconventional. You come across stories where so-and-so person can heal your back problem, for example, using certain oil, which is not available elsewhere. Or the person has this ability to hypnotize you and relieve you of your mental stresses by some mechanism.
So an unconventional healer is the first thing that comes to my mind. And a very smart business person. The smartness comes from Rahu. And Punarvasu is directly linked to all kinds of businesses, to the various industries which I had listed earlier.
The person is going to be very fond of travel, very fond of meeting people from different cultures and learning different languages, particularly if the sign is Gemini. The person may say things which are intended to motivate and help people, but the person is also going to attract negative publicity for one's opinions. Like the person might say, oh, we need to stop relying on petrol and diesel and start using hydrogen. Let's use that.

And therefore the person can also have a career in psychology or consumer behaviour or even in the armed forces, studying the behaviour of different soldiers and offering help on a mental plane, helping soldiers deal with their anxieties. For example, Ketu has a lot to do with the armed forces.
The person can also have a background in espionage, intelligence services, where the person is analysing how society is behaving and what potential threats can be there to the society. So through the understanding, or should I say, through the intuitive understanding of how people think, the person can benefit the society in some ways. The person would be very fond of travel and very fond of living a life by oneself. The person would like to be in a place away from people known to the person and protecting people who are foreign to oneself.
Like we hear stories that a person came to this city while travelling and helped a young child from drowning. So you end up helping people unknown to you, I guess, in some ways. The person can also be very knowledgeable about ancient medicines. Ketu does not have a self-identity and the self- sacrificing nature can lead to the person going to the extreme, destroying one's own identity for the sake of a larger good.

Ketu Punarvasu, I think, is an excellent position if you'd like to explore spirituality and search for answers within. I don't think a Ketu Punarvasu-like person would be very inclined to run a business and make a name and fame for oneself.
The person would be more keen to search for answers within. And lastly, the person's manner of speaking and the manner of helping others is going to be very direct and straightforward. That's my view of Ketu in Punarvasu. I think Ketu does really well, just like Rahu in this Nakshatra, as their actions, Rahu and Ketu's actions are guided by Jupiter.
