Goddess Apah is the Goddess of water. In the beginning, the Universe was nothing but a sea of water. The creator of all creatures (Prajapati) was born from this cosmic sea. Water has a purifying effect. It washes away our sins not literally, but through self-realisation, introspection, austerity and penance. This is why some rivers, particularly in India, are considered holy. Goddess Saraswati oversees this Nakshatra as she is the mother of all rivers. She is the fountainhead of all faculties (mental & spiritual). By her grace, our intellect is purified and we merge with the ultimate truth. She has magical healing powers too. The waters are therefore said to cure all diseases and are considered the most skilful of physicians. They also calm inflamed emotions and anger, and end jealousy. The waters nourish everyone and give us food and energy.

An elephant’s tusk is the main symbol of this nakshatra. It signifies permanent victory and invincibility. Therefore, the native would be extremely confident, exuberant, undaunted by failure, would aim for the sky, and would set goals beyond reach. Waters from wells, rivers, ponds and lakes ultimately merge into the ocean, symbolising the native’s single-minded focus on the greatest desire in life, whether material or spiritual.
