What was the reason, astrologically speaking, behind Nelson Mandela's courage? I think it has a lot to do with Mars in his chart being in the Nakshatra of Hasta.
Mars is behind courage, fighting ability and resilience. When Mars is in Hasta, in my view, the individual naturally tends to fight for the right reasons.

Mercury and Saturn in his chart fall in Ashlesha. I think Ashlesha's influence made him a strategic thinker. There are several examples of him remaining politically active even while he was in prison.
He understood his opponents much better while he was in prison. When he later succeeded and became president, he knew how to take both communities together.
