Introduction
Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister, was celebrating his eleventh year in power at the time of this analysis. He has a very interesting chart and an equally interesting personality.
But first, his birth details. I always check the details on Astro-Databank, and here I found three times mentioned next to his time of birth. Among the three, I think his time of birth is 12:09 p.m. based on my analysis. I'll share why I have chosen this time and not the others as we go through different aspects of his life.
May 2014 and Jupiter timing
Timing
His chart here is based on 12:09 p.m. It shows that his rising constellation is Anuradha. In May 2014, he was chosen as the Indian Prime Minister.
He was at the receiving end of a great honour. If we go to the Dasha table to see whether that can be explained, we see that in 2014 he was going through the Moon’s Mahadasha but, more importantly, Jupiter’s Antardasha.
The Antardashas are very important. If the Antardasha is of Jupiter, you could find yourself at the receiving end of a high-ranking position. In his case, Jupiter is in the constellation of Dhanishtha. Dhanishtha is all about fame, and when Jupiter is there in Dhanishtha, it is a sign of worldwide fame.
Immediately, I see that the most important life event in 2014 for him, when he became the Indian Prime Minister, can be explained through the Dasha, as he was going through Jupiter’s Antardasha. That makes me feel that this time of birth is correct.
Anuradha and public service
Anuradha
One of the things associated with Narendra Modi is that he is a very hard-working individual. There are rumours about him not sleeping much or staying awake because he feels a sense of duty, perhaps for the nation he represents. This is a very Saturn-like quality. Being very duty-bound is also a very Anuradha-like quality.
If you look at his rising constellation, it is Anuradha, and this constellation is ruled by Saturn. Most importantly, Moon is also in the same constellation. So of all the twenty-seven Nakshatras, I would classify Narendra Modi as an Anuradha native.
An Anuradha native possesses the power of dedication, which fits his personality. Anuradha is also about being in public service. People with Anuradha’s influence in their charts have also shared that they are in public service.
That is evidence that Anuradha natives have a strong desire to serve society, and they do so, most interestingly, selflessly. That is the quality of the constellation of Anuradha.
Mitra and friendship
Friendship
Anuradha is ruled by Lord Mitra; that is the mythology. Lord Mitra is also known to be the lord of friendships.
One of the things Narendra Modi tries to promote is friendship. He is often quoted as saying that the world sees India as its friend. So he is a promoter of friendship, and that is his political ideology: we have to be friendly to everyone. That is a very Lord-Mitra-like quality to have.
Saturn, Sun and public service
Service
Anuradha, as I have mentioned, is ruled by Saturn, and Saturn in his chart is in the tenth house. Generally speaking, if you have Saturn in the tenth house, you are going to take your career very seriously.
When Saturn falls in a constellation ruled by Sun, there is every chance of you representing the government. I have highlighted that Saturn and Sun’s relationship is an indication of the person’s work being somehow linked to the government.
He has Saturn in the tenth house in Uttara Phalguni, ruled by Sun. Sun is also in the same constellation, Uttara Phalguni, and so is Mercury. So he has a very strong Anuradha influence and Uttara Phalguni influence.
I also regard Uttara Phalguni very highly, as Uttara Phalguni is a lot about fulfilling your obligations. It is about doing things honestly. You take great pride in fulfilling your promises, or you try to do everything possible to make sure that you have held up your end of the bargain.
When Mercury is there in Uttara Phalguni, the individual can be a very trustworthy business partner—in his case, a government partner, for example. So he has a strong influence of Uttara Phalguni and Anuradha on his chart.
Venus in Purva Phalguni
Spotlight
One of the criticisms Narendra Modi faces in his life is about being in the public eye too much, being too loud on social media or being in the spotlight more than necessary. That, in my view, can be explained by Venus’s position in the tenth house in Purva Phalguni.
Individuals with this combination are like shining stars. They always find a way to be in the public eye. They always grab the limelight even without trying.
Here is an interesting comparison. You might find this funny. Kim Kardashian, based on the details that I found on Astro-Databank, also has this exact same combination. She is also a Scorpio ascendant. Narendra Modi is also a Scorpio ascendant. Kim Kardashian has Venus in the tenth house in Purva Phalguni, just like Narendra Modi.
The point I am trying to make is that if you have Venus in Purva Phalguni, irrespective of which house it occupies, you are likely to have a very magnetic personality. Particularly when it falls in the tenth house, you could be quite popular in your public life.
He is topping the charts of world leaders with the maximum following on social media.
I think this has a lot to do with Venus in Purva Phalguni. Jupiter in Dhanishtha is a sign of massive fame, while Venus in Purva Phalguni is a sign of being in the spotlight. These placements explain his extraordinary fame in India and abroad.
Mars in Vishakha
Protector
If you look at Mars’s position in his chart, it falls in the first house in the constellation of Vishakha. This is a combination I generally find among lawyers or those who are in sports, because a Mars-in-Vishakha-like individual can be highly competitive.
A Mars-in-Vishakha-like individual is going to fight on principle for something they believe in. I think Mars in the first house is the reason he is projected as a strong leader, or at least why he has created that image. This is strongly linked to Mars in Vishakha.
Mars also has a relationship with Moon in the Navamsha and Dashamsha charts. So you should also take into account the divisional charts, and I find Mars in Cancer. These combinations together suggest that he is like a great protector of society.
When Mars is in the first house and has a relationship with Moon, there is every chance that the person is involved in some sort of healing sector or the social-welfare industry.
Rahu, duty and Ketu
Duty
Mercury in Uttara Phalguni is a sign of someone quite trustworthy. Rahu in Uttara Bhadrapada is an interesting position in his chart, suggesting that he may misunderstand the responsibility he has been bestowed by the nation.
By that I mean the individual might feel that they have to remain awake all the time to fulfil their duty. You may misunderstand what is required of you. Rahu is always going to create some delusion, and we all have Rahu in our charts.
I think he is likely to be deluded by what is required of him. I think this position actually explains him working so hard. There are rumours that he hardly sleeps. He perhaps feels that by remaining awake he will be fulfilling his duty better. So that is an interesting position.
Ketu in the house of money is an indication that he might remain detached from material possessions, and that has been his life story.
Marriage and the Venus–Rahu pattern
Marriage
Regarding his personal life, Saturn in the tenth house is aspecting the marriage house. Career can be one of the main reasons why a person might choose to remain single. If this time of birth is correct, which in my view it is, Ketu in the fourth house in the Navamsha is a sign of a lack of attachment to family life. This justifies him not having a family.
Venus rules the marriage house in both charts, and the Venus–Rahu relationship indicates that he was meant to have a relationship, but an unusual one. He was married in 1968 when he was very young. When he entered Rahu’s Antardasha, he decided to break away from marriage.
The Venus–Rahu relationship always leads to the personal-life situation being unusual: in his case, marrying at such a young age and then, under Rahu’s chapter, becoming somewhat rebellious and trying to move away. That is what he did.
Saturn as Atmakaraka
Saturn
Before going through the Dasha table, I would like to highlight that his Atmakaraka is Saturn. Earlier, I mentioned that his rising constellation is Anuradha, and that is ruled by Saturn. I mentioned that to explain that he is a very Saturn-like individual, and having Saturn as the Atmakaraka further confirms this.
The reason why I brought this up is because he was also born under Saturn’s Mahadasha, which would be the case as Moon’s constellation is ruled by Saturn. So early childhood would have been difficult. Thereafter he entered Mercury and Ketu. He had the first signs of visibility in his public life when he entered Venus’s Mahadasha.
Party rise, Gujarat and Sun
Rise
He started Venus's Mahadasha in late 1984, and a year later, in 1985, he became an active and visible member of the party he currently represents. About eleven years later, under Jupiter’s Antardasha in 1996, he became the National Secretary of the party. Jupiter’s introduction in his life brought him a position of power. He was honoured with the position of representing the party more nationally, or managing the party nationally.
Under Venus and Mercury’s chapter, Mercury in his chart is in a strong position. He was given the honour of becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Then, right throughout Sun’s Mahadasha, Sun in his chart is super strong.
Compare that to the life story of Bill Gates, who had Sun in the constellation of Swati, where Sun is weak. At the beginning of Sun’s Mahadasha, circumstances were created in his life that made him give up his position as CEO.
In Narendra Modi’s case, the Sun rules the 10th house in the Navamsha and is very strongly placed in its own constellation, Uttara Phalguni, in the 11th house. A rise in power was therefore very likely under the Sun Mahadasha, and he remained Chief Minister of Gujarat throughout its six years.
Jupiter in Dhanishtha
Jupiter
Then he contested the election for prime minister in 2014. He became Prime Minister in May 2014, right in the middle of Jupiter’s Antardasha. That should not be of any surprise: he was given that position under Jupiter, as Jupiter is strongly placed in his chart in Dhanishtha, particularly in the fourth house.
The fourth house, in my view, is strongly linked to the relationship one shares with people one meets through work. When Jupiter is there, the individual is seen as someone who can be a guide to society. The fourth house is also to do with the society in which we live.
Jupiter signifies being the guide, and Dhanishtha signifies a position of power and leadership, and therefore being recognised as a leader. The fourth house is also to do with our neighbourhood or, by extension, our city, state, country or perhaps the entire creation. The fourth house is linked to that.
When Jupiter is in Dhanishtha, the individual can be popular for involvement in public service, because the fourth house relates to our society broadly.
Why I chose 12:09 p.m.
Rectification
That brings me to what I mentioned right at the beginning: I found three different details next to his time of birth. One other time was 9:35 a.m. If you go by that chart, you find Sun in the twelfth house. That does not sit well with me because it indicates he was likely to serve his country, if he wanted to remain in public service, in a foreign place. But he remained in his home state.
The strong twelfth-house association and other factors made me believe this was not making sense. The other time was 11:00 a.m., which is more popular than the time I have chosen, but the Dashas did not make sense. At the time he became Prime Minister, he was going through Rahu’s chapter in the 11:00 a.m. chart, which seemed less likely than going through Jupiter’s chapter.
12:09 p.m. is the time of birth which, in my view, made more sense. Even his personal life can be explained through the Navamsha chart, where Venus and Rahu are together. Ketu in the fourth house is a sign of a missing family life.
This cannot be applied universally; you have to take the entire chart into account. His chart suggests that, due to his career, he is going to be very busy and may not take out time for his personal life. Ketu in the fourth house also suggests that his career is going to keep him obsessed with his work.
December 2027 Rahu forecast
Rahu
Going forward, around December 2027 he is likely to enter Rahu’s Mahadasha. It is likely that an important life event might occur during that time, particularly one linked to his career, if this time of birth of 12:09 p.m. is correct.
I hope you have learned something through this exercise of going through his chart.
Thank you for your time.
