Krittika Nakshatra: meaning, characteristics, lord and career

Krittika is the third Nakshatra, occupying 26 degrees 40 minutes of Aries to 10 degrees of Taurus. It is ruled by Sun. Here's what it means for you.

Lord Agni and Krittika

He is the leader of the Vasus, the divine Gods ruling Earth. He’s the son of Lord Prajapati, who is the creator of all creatures. A mythical tale assigns a father-son and a son-father relationship between Lord Agni and Lord Prajapati, adding fuel to the creative fire associated with Lord Agni. He’s lauded the second most number of times, behind Lord Indra, in the Rigveda, which is symbolic of his power and influence. He accepts food on behalf of all the Gods and is also seen as a messenger between humans and the Gods. He blesses the native with intelligence (tejas) to comprehend complicated subjects and burn the veil of delusion that keeps one from true knowledge. By his grace, the native may even elevate to the highest planes of spirituality. All universities, colleges, institutes, schools, and religious and spiritual centers are directly linked to Krittika. Lord Grihapati is a form of Lord Agni venerated by all households. He represents the fire in our kitchens that cooks our food, protects us against wild animals and warms our bodies with its heat. A mythical tale describes Lord Agni burning incessantly for 14 days in a forest and devouring everything in sight, symbolising his insatiable hunger. The native may have a large appetite for life (too ambitious), and so may burn out mentally and physically. The native may fall prey to jealousy, revenge, material desires, and lust.

Lord Karttikeya and Krittika

One legend describes him as the son of Lord Agni, while another describes him as the son of Lord Rudra. There might therefore be a question over who the native's real parents are. Lord Karttikeya defeated the most powerful demon at a very early age and thereafter he became the commander of the celestial army. The native would be energetic, courageous, fearless, enterprising, independent and powerful, and would be a risk-taker with the ability to defeat all enemies and overcome all obstacles. Fueled by Lord Agni, the native would always be eager to learn. Lord Karttikeya was raised by six mothers, who were the wives of the Saptarishis, the divine sages. The native would therefore be tough and warrior-like on the outside, but soft and caring on the inside. His expression of care is through protection. Moon is exalted in this nakshatra for this reason. Soldiers, sportspersons, martial artists, blacksmiths, fire-fighters, surgeons, cooks, teachers, professors, religious guides, spiritual gurus are seen from this nakshatra.
