Ardra Nakshatra: meaning, characteristics, lord and career

Ardra is the sixth Nakshatra occupying 6 degrees 40 minutes to 20 degrees Gemini. It is ruled by Rahu. Here's what it means for you.

Lord Rudra and Ardra

Ardra is ruled by Lord Rudra. He is popularly known as Lord Shiva. He is the destroyer of creation and therefore initiates the first step towards a new cycle of creation. Rudra translates to the one who roars and his ominous wail is compared to the blast of lightning. In his Rudra form, he is wrathful, fierce, violent, and he is feared by the Gods. He is the mightiest of the mighty. He puts an end to all things evil. We experience his wrath in the form of thunderstorms, cyclones, earthquakes, wildfires, demolition by war missiles, or pandemics. Ardra can therefore be described as the storm before the calm, agony before tranquillity and sorrow before peace. For that reason, a teardrop is the main symbol of this Nakshatra. So places that witness brutality, pain, and suffering such as slaughterhouses, morgues, demolished cities, and war hospitals are seen from Ardra. The Ardra native could be working in such places or could go through unusual life-altering events and may find oneself in the grip of agonizing pain and sorrow but would come out much stronger on the other side. He roams free in the wild in isolation. All wild animals are under his protection. The native may love wildlife and prefer an isolated way of life. Lord Rudra knows the medicinal qualities of all herbs and is therefore given the title of Vaidyanatha, the Lord of herbs. All alternative or ancient medicine practices are seen from Ardra, as is the discovery of drugs and treatments such as chemotherapy. Since the force of Lord Rudra is behind all natural disasters, geologists are seen from this Nakshatra.

The churning of the ocean

Lord Rudra is the destroyer of the creation but also the most benevolent and generous God. There are several tales of him restoring everything that bears the brunt of his ferocity. Lord Rudra is worshipped for protection, long life, good health, and prosperity and more importantly he possesses the power to put an end to our suffering. As per the story of the churning of the ocean, the Gods and the demons got together in search of the nectar of immortality. But in their quest they discovered a deadly poison, which threatened the existence of the Universe. Seeing this, Lord Rudra came forward and swallowed that deadly poison for the safety and well-being of everyone else. This tale, among many others, illustrates the selfless and self-sacrificing nature of Lord Rudra. The same qualities would be seen in the native’s character.
